ANOTHER SUMMER UPDATE
I'm amazed at how well I've been getting along with my parents since being home; before the school year began, we argued almost constantly, but (with the exception of my sister, who has been forced to remember that she has a sibling and is not, as the last few months would make it seem, an only child) since being back in New Jersey, things have been relatively calm around my house. Mind you, I still have no relationship with my father...I have yet to understand why my friends look forward to going home, but it's relatively pleasant here now, relative as compared to last year. And while I'd rather be in a number of other places (AU, for example) I no longer have the feeling that I will be forced to kill myself or a member of my family by summer's end.

Since being "let go" from my bartending job, I've spent nearly all of my time either sleeping, surfing the internet, reading, or running errands for my mother. It's a simple life; I'm not used to it, I'm not used to not being stressed and busy, but it's suiting me well at the moment. The reading and research I've been doing has kept me from being terribly bored. Anyway, Adi invited me to visit her last Thursday, which I, of course, did. I drove the hour there early Thursday morning so we could go to the beach near her house as she had wanted. We relaxed there for about two hours before getting bored and deciding to go shopping. Adi is my fashion guru. I have no (or an extremely limited) sense of fashion and can never find clothing that fits properly and yet...somehow, Adi always manages to help me find things that look great. On this particular shopping expedition, we found two casual shirts, a nice blouse, a very sexy "little black dress," a pair of sunglasses, and a pair of jeans (which my mom likes to call "the magical $7 jeans.") I feel very fortunate that my closest friend from school lives so close to me. Seeing her really cheered me up...I had a lot of fun.

Not much has happened since then. My parents and I went to see the new Star Wars movie Wednesday night. It was incredible, the best in the series in my opinion. It was really nice to go the theater; going to the movies is a treat in my family, a small luxury due to the crippling cost of my tuition and the instability of my father's income as a market maker (he works on the floor of the American Stock Exchange.) My mom seemed to share my appreciation for the outing. It's the little things...

Anyway, I occupied myself Thursday and today by holding my own Star Wars marathon, watching all six films (I downloaded a copy of Revenge of the Sith,) in their fictitious chronological order. For those of you have never done it, try it...you pick up on all sorts of things you wouldn't have otherwise.

Oh, and I was summoned for jury duty. It appears as though I will have to go.

I lead an exciting life.

P.S. - No matter how old I get, nor with whom I share a home, I will always have stars on the ceiling of my bedroom...more on that later.

THE ORIGINAL TITLE OF THIS ENTRY WAS "WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME"
Hello again; I'm sorry for the three week period of silence...not a lot has been happening, it is New Jersey afterall.

I was closed out of the two classes I'd hoped to take over the course of this summer, so I was forced to change the way I'd planned to occupy my summer months from studies and a part-time job to simply a full-time job. Throughout the week following my grandparents' and uncle's departures, I went on the job hunt. It didn't take me long to land three interviews for bartending positions, from which resulted two job offers. The first was at a go-go club, which I (of course) turned down. My decision wasn't based much on the fact that I would be working in a place where women dance almost completely naked, rather, it was based on the fact that the dress code of the bartenders differed only slightly from that of the dancers. My father suggested I take the job despite knowing that all I'd be wearing would be a spaghetti strap tank top and underwear. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised...that advice came from the same parental figure that suggested I smoke pot rather than take medication. On that note, The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ruled doctors can be blocked from prescribing marijuana for patients suffering from pain caused by cancer or other serious illnesses...bye bye medicinal marijuana.

Anyway, the second job offer was for a little sports bar about 30 minutes from my parents' house, which I accepted. My first day was three weeks ago today, my last was (as I found out yesterday) last Thursday. The guy that hired me literally changed his mind about needing someone...he said it wasn't anything I did. I'm annoyed, but not upset. The place had no patrons (thus, no tips) and the guy was paying me nothing, still...I just wasted three weeks, three weeks which I could've spent either searching for or working a better job...I had planned on beginning another job hunt today, but instead completely lost track of time reading two books and a number of articles online...I read all day and it was wonderful.

My friends at school constantly tell me I should "get out" and "have fun," by which they mean, have fun the way they (and most others) do, by partying, drinking, socializing, etc. What no one ever seems to understand is that I have more fun reading and learning than just about anything else. Spending all day doing so was amazing (I read a few hundred pages in print and at least 100 more online.) It stimulated me. Today was the best day I've had since before finals.

Anyway, I'll begin the new job hunt tomorrow. I'm fairly confident I can get a job at a local reception hall as a member of the catering staff...glorified waitress, though with the inflated title comes a slightly inflated pay check. Waitress...*sigh*...I was supposed to be interning on the American Stock Exchange this summer, but the company I was going to work for went out of business a few months ago...I wish I could do that or something more substantial than serving food. I guess I can't expect anyone to hire me for anything other than labor though...no one's going to pay me to use my mind...all they need is an extra set of hands.

Other than that, there hasn't been any activity in my life unless you want to hear about how obnoxious my younger sister is or the nightmares I've been having on a semi-nightly basis. I'll try to post more often...but no promises until the end of August, when school starts again.
